Question: Help, grade 10 math quadratic functions, parabolas?
Find a and k so that the given points lie on the parabola.
y=a(x-1)^2+k; (2,6) (3,12)
Answer: Just substitute the points into the equation.
Point 1:
6 = a(2-1)^2 + k;
this simplifies to:
6 = a + k. (*)
Point 2:
12 = a(3-1)^2 + k;
12 = 4a + k. (**)
We now have two linear equations and two unknowns. Subtract equation (*) from equation (**):
6 = 3a;
or a = 2.
Therefore. k = 6 – 2 = 4 (from equation (*)).

Question: Stuck on a math worksheet?? Help!?
I have a math problem that I don’t get. Can you help me? Here is the problem:
The size of letters in printed material such as newspapers or books is measured in points. One point equals 1/72 of an inch.
1. What is the point size of the type that is 1/8 of an inch high?
2. What is the point size of the type that is 1 1/2 inches high?
Please please please help me with this. I have been trying to figure it out and it is really hard. Thanks.
Answer: 1/8=9/72 so it is 9 points
you have to find common denominators.
try the other one. it’s a bit harder, you just have to make the fractions have the same denominator.
