When in doubt if something is true or false in life, use this logic tool and you will know that logically it is true or logically it is false. Once you have mastered this logic technique, you will no longer have to ask anyone else if something is true or false, you will be able to use your logic to figure it out for yourself.

Sentences

Sentences are any expressions that can be labeled either true or false. Example of sentences are:

• ” it is windy where I am standing “
• ” My name is Peter “
• ” 2 + 2 = 4 “

Examples of expressions that cannot be assigned true or false are:

• ” I will probably be thinner if I exercise “
• ” It will rain on Wednesday, one month from now “
• ” What I Am saying right now is a lie “

Sentences can be combined to form new sentences

Sentences can be combined to form new sentences by using the words, AND, OR, NOT, and IF – THEN.

For example, the sentences:

• ” I am tired. “
• ” Joanne is running. “

can be combined to form

• I am tired and Joanne is running.
• I am tired or Joanne is running.
• I am not tired.
• If I am tired then Joanne is running.

Definition of logic

The definition of logic can be broken down into three separate definition of logic. All three separate definition of logic are outlined below:

Definition of logic 1:

Logic is the analysis without regard to meaning or context, of the patterns of reasoning by which conclusions are validly derived from sets of premises.

Definition of logic 2:

Logic is any particular formal calculus or formal language in which are defined axions and rules of inference.

Definition of logic 3:

a) The system and principles of reasoning used in a particular field of study. For example, the logic of quantum theory

b) (informal definition of logic) a particular method of argument or reasoning. In this sense on says his logic lead him to the wrong conclusion

c) (informal definition of logic) the process of reasoning or any analogous procedure thus one speaks of checking the logic of a proof or computer program.
