Math Homework Help Percentages

Question: Percentage increase – Maths homework help ?
Hi,
I’m really stuck on this one question and how you work it out. If anyone could help that would be great
The sides of a square are increased by 10%. By what percentage is the area increased?
Thanks in advance!
Answer: A = s² Let’s increase s by 10%: s + 10%s = s + 0.1s = 1.1s,
So the new increased area is A* = (1.1s)² =
1.21 s² =
1s² + .21s² = (and since s² = A)
A + .21A which is the original area increased by 21%.
