Math Help Websites For Kids

Question: Im feeling helpless…Open classroom frustration…any help for me?
Im working in an open classroom environment, and im NOT a teacher. I am a paraeducator, and im in the class to help the teacher with a certain student. The student has been diagnosed with autism. What I do in the classroom is i help the teacher with whatever she needs–i usually teach a center (which would be on the subject of science, math, art, geography, vocabulary, etc…) for the majority of my time, but i have trouble getting the children to stay on task, and i feel like i have nothing to motivate them to be on task. I can’t reward them with anything for doing anything right, and i can’t discipline them or have them disciplined for being off-task. i need i can say, “good job,” or “bad job,” but that only goes so far…what can i do, barring rewards and discipline, to get these kids to focus and learn? any websites or teachers that can help, please!
Answer: I think that if you are paid to help the autistic student that is what you should be doing, not the other stuff. Look at your job description!!
If you feel the open classroom is not the best environment for him (which is what I would be inclined to think) then I would contact his parent and call for an IEP meeting for a more appropriate placement. Good luck.
