Question: GRE Math Problem Help..?

. Jane is as much younger to Annie as she is older to Perry. If the sum of the ages of Annie and Perry is 48 what is the age of Jane?

Answer: This one is too confusing!

Lets start by putting them in order youngest to oldest.
Perry – Jane – Annie

We know that Jane is x years older than Perry and Annie is 2x older than Perry.

Next, we know Perry + Annie is 48. If we re-write this, it’s: (P=Perry)
P +2x = 48

Solve for x.
2x = 48 – P
x = (48 – P)/2

But you need to find Jane’s age, which is Perry’s age plus x.
P + (48 – P)/2

You’ll need more information to solve for the real age. A LARGE percent of the answers on the GRE are still in a formula form so don’t worry about not getting a numerical answer.

Math Help Proportions

math help proportions
Question: math! proportions! Conversions! Help!?

So, for a math assignment… well the details aren’t really important, but basicly I need to know the height of this tree based on these facts: my height=64 in. my shadow’s height=65 in. the tree shadow’s height=382… I wanna say just take off an inch and therefore the height would equal 381 inches, but I’m not sure… It just doesn’t seem right… but it probably is… haha. ah! that’s like what, 2 or 5 points down the drain! haha

Answer: If you want to get the points, best to go with your guess to use proportions.
Let x = height of the tree, so:
64/65 = x/382
64 * 382 = 65x (cross multiply)
2448 = 65x
2448 / 65 = x (then divide)
376.12 ≈ x
This pattern, always used for proportions, is known as “cross multiply and divide.” Clever, these mathematicians.

█ See if you can write a story that includes 6 of these lines.◄

Answer: “Order In The Court! Order In The Court! I Want All The Hypocycloids To Shut Up And Sit Down !!!!” interrupted the Judge.
All the people from the court made a weird face and giggled.
Michael who ruined Kurt’s mathematical problems is the defendant; Kurt is the plaintiff.

“All rise!” said the security.
“Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth?” asked the officer.

The court has begun. After all those introduction had been said; it was the moment of truth and the argument is getting intense.

“What Goes Around, Comes Around..Be There Or Be Square. Oppositely Congruent Figures Are Bound To Have An Argument Once In A While.” argued Michael.

“Napoleon’s Theorem Of Complex Variables Is A Perfect Example Of Why Your Theory Is Absurd.” demanded Kurt.

“Ahem…..And May I Remind You Of The Famous Müller-Lyer Illusion?” asked Michael.

“Your Life Reminds Me Of A Continuous Line Illusion.
The Probability Itself Is A Random Variable. Do The Math, You Poor Excuse Of Perry Mason!!” replied Kurt.

“No.No.No. Those Were Mutually Exclusive Events,” said Micheal.

“Those Two Are Such A Tangent Pair.” interrupted the Judge while Michael is talking

“Two people can’t talk at the same time. When my mouth is moving, it means that you need to be quiet Judge,” muttered Michael

The audiences made a “Ohhhhhh” sound.

“Oh no you didn’t just say that! This is my courtroom and I can say what I want. When you become a judge, we will talk.” retorted the Judge.
