Question: How do you answer this Math question on Similarity (ratio of the area of two figure )?

Please help me slove question part b(ii).
Note: Length of AE= 6_2/3 (ie. 20/3)
Length of DE= 2_ 2/3 (ie. 8/3)

Answer: You don’t need very much of the information to determine the ratio of the areas.
Area of any triangle = 1/2 base * height
These two triangles have the same height, which we don’t need to know.
The base of one is CE and the other is CF.
Since CE:EF = 3:1
and CF = CE + EF
CE:CF = CE : (CE+EF) = 3: (3+1) = 3:4
and that’s the ratio of the areas of the triangles.
