math help quadratic formula
Question: math. discriminant and Quadratic Formula?

can anybody help me with these two questions?

find the discriminant of the quadratic equation
x^2-4x+10=0

use the Quadratic Formula to solve
x^2-5x-14=0

Answer: [07]
Comparing the equation withthe standard quadratic equation ax^2+bx+c=0,we get
a=1,b= -4 and c=10Therefore discriminant
=b^2-4ac
=16-4*1*10
=16-40
= -24

comparing the equation with the standard quadratic equation,which is,ax^2+bx+c=0
we get a=1.b= -5 and c= -14
Therefore,
x={5+-sqrt(25-4(1)(-14)}/2
=(5+-sqrt[25+56])/2
=(5+-sqrt81)/2
=(5+-9)/2
=7 or -2
