Math Homework Packet

Question: Simple Math Question ?
I am currently working on an alegebra math homework packet and I forgot a really dumb rule thing…
is (y^2)^3
y^5 or y^6??
Thanks guys, I feel very dumb :]
Answer: No problem. When exponentiating a base with an exponent, multiply.
(y^2)^3 = (y^2)(y^2)(y^2) = y^(2 + 2+ 2) = y^(2×3) = y^6
Multiply.
Rules for quantities with exponents:
Multiplication becomes addition
Division becomes subtraction
exponentiation becomes multiplication

In the Premier League there are 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw. After 23 games Manchester United have 49 points and have lost 4 matches. How many matches have they drawn?
I am baffled by this! I can get the answer but I need to write the algebra to work it out.
Can you help?
Answer: Wins are worth 3 points, ties (draws) are worth 1 point, and losses are worth zero (0).
There have been 23 games played with 4 losses.
Let x = the number of wins in the 19 games with points awarded.
Therefore, 3x +1(19-x) = 49 (i.e. 3 for win & 1 for tie)
3x + 19 -x = 49
2x = 30
x= 15 = number of wins
If 15 of 19 point-award games are wins, the other 4 are ties.
Check the totals:
15 wins at 3 points per win = 45 points
4 ties (draws) at 1 point per draw = 4 points
4 losses at 0 points per loss = 0 points
Total games = 23
Total wins = 15
Total ties = 4
Total points = 49
How many matches have they drawn? Four (4) matches.

Question: this is math 157 math for elementary teachers II?
Suppose you had test scores of 85, 80, 92, and 83. Could the range give you an indication of what your grade may be without calculating the average? How so?
Can someone please help me with this question
Answer: Yes the range give you an indication of what your grade may be without calculating the average because the range tells you the difference between the smallest and the largest value in a frequency distribution so you know your score has to be between those two points (if expressed as between two points)
