Answer: Hi,

1.the product of two consecutive integers is 342. find the integers.(using the quadratic equations method)

x(x + 1) = 342

x² + x – 342 = 0

(x + 19)(x – 18) = 0

x + 19 = 0
x = -19
x + 1 = -18

x – 18 = 0
x = 18
x + 1 = 19

The numbers can be either -19 and -18, or 18 and 19. <==ANSWER

2.a rectangular playground has a perimeter of 60m and an area of 216cm square. find the dimensions of the playground.

2L + 2W = 60

L + W = 30

W = 30 - L

LW = 216

L(30 - L) = 216

30L - L² = 216

L² - 30L + 216 = 0

(L - 18)(L - 12) = 0

L - 18 = 0
L = 18

L - 12 = 0
L = 12

The playground was 18 m x 12 m. <==ANSWER

3.in a two digit number, the tens digit is 5 lesser than the ones digit. the number is 14 greater than the product f the digits.find the number

T = U - 5

10T + U - 14 = TU

10(U - 5) + U - 14 = (U - 5)U

10U - 50 + U - 14 = U² - 5U

11U - 64 = U² - 5U

U² - 16U + 64 = 0

(U - 8)(U - 8) = 0

U - 8 = 0

U = 8

T = U - 5
T = 8 - 5 = 3

The number is 38. <==ANSWER

I hope that helps!! :-)
